International Women's Day
As a proud woman-owned and led business, we welcome the opportunity to celebrate women and the vital role they play in our society.
Let's Take A Deep Dive
This Friday, March 8th, is International Women’s Day. A global day to recognize and celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias, and take action for equality. Internationally, this year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion, while the Canadian national theme is Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.
Gender Equality
UN Women defines Gender Equality as “equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities for all genders”.
Instead of saying “everyone should be the same”, gender equality strives for a world in which a person’s rights, responsibilities, and opportunities don’t depend on their gender.
It implies that the interests and needs of everybody, in all their diversities, are important.
It’s not a “women’s issue.” It’s everyone’s issue, and it makes life better for all of us.
Intersectional Feminism
Advancing gender equality in Canada isn’t just about closing gaps between men and women. People experience different barriers depending on many elements of their identities—things like their sexuality, race, gender identity, ability, and age.
Pursuing true equality means recognizing and meeting all peoples’ diverse needs.
Did you know:
In 1989, American legal scholar and civil rights activist, Kimberlé Crenshaw coined the term intersectionality to explain how race intersects with gender to produce barriers for Black women.

If present trends continue it will take 267.6 years to close the economic gender gap worldwide.

23% of women with disabilities live on low incomes.

Canada could add $150 billion to its GDP by 2026 by advancing gender equality and boosting women’s workforce participation.

Indigenous Women In Canada
Due to the legacy of colonization, residential schools, and marginalizing policies, women in Indigenous communities face complex barriers.
Indigenous women experience higher rates of poverty, unstable housing, gender-based violence, and other forms of systemic discrimination
According to the RCMP, there were 1,181 cases of missing or murdered Indigenous women in Canada between 1980 and 2012. However, the Minister for the Status of Women and the Native Women’s Association of Canada estimate that the number is closer to 4,000.

– McKinsey & Company, Diversity Wins: How Inclusion Matters, 2020

Women In Pandemics
“Across every sphere, from health to the economy, security to social protection, the impacts of COVID-19 are exacerbated for women and girls simply by virtue of their sex.”
– The United Nations
Of the 557 facilities across Canada housing survivors of domestic violence, 49 percent indicated they received an increase in crisis calls, and 53 percent indicated they saw an increased demand for support during the pandemic.
– Statistics Canada
In a matter of months, the crisis reduced women’s workforce participation to its lowest level in three decades.
